For the month of October I decided to go on a shopping ban. Now for someone who tends to buy new clothes every week, I knew it wouldn't be easy. I did this challenge for a number of reasons really. I have so many clothes already and don't always need to buy new clothes. I am definitely guilty of buying new clothes way too often, it is a bad habit. I feel like a lot of us are guilty of this though - we buy clothes because we want them but not because we need them?

There is a big conversation happening at the moment about the effects fast fashion has on the environment, retailers are bringing out sustainable ranges, using more eco friendly fabrics. People are talking a lot more about the importance of reselling or recycling clothes that you no longer wear, which is something I have always been good at doing. I think it is great that the discussion is happening and it does make you think more about what you can do to help in your own way. If that means going on a shopping ban every month or so, ensuring that you recycle your unwanted clothes or just be smarter with your purchases by investing in clothes that you know will last you for years.

Another contributing reason I decided to go on a shopping ban was to try and save money because I honestly just spend too much money on clothes!

As a blogger, I have found it hard not to buy new clothes, to keep up with the trends and to not have something new to post on Instagram. Instagram does make you want to shop other peoples wardrobe's, there is no denying that we have temptation on there everyday. But it made me realise that I don't always need something new to wear. I have plenty clothes and items can be re-worn multiple times and even posted on Instagram more than once - shock horror haha.

So what is my verdict. Is it possible to do a month long shopping ban? Of course it is! It is hard, but totally doable. It made me realise how many great pieces I already have in my wardrobe and pushed me to experiment a bit more, mix and matching pieces I might not have thought to before. It definitely saved me some money this month too and made me think more about the purchases I will make in future.  I happily ended the month without having zero funds for the first time in ages, so my bank account was happy with the results, that is for sure! Going forward I do want to try and make more conscious shopping decisions, ensuring that the pieces I buy match something else I already own and are something I know I will get a lot of wear out of.

So my month long spending ban ended on Friday. Have I bought new clothes yet? Maybe. But I am still really trying to not spend too much of my money on clothes. I have bought a couple of things that I needed, like some roll neck tops that I know I will get so much wear out of this Winter.

On Sunday I actually went to 'Another Blogger Sale', which was an event organised by Georgia aka Glamero where a bunch of bloggers went to sell their unwanted clothes. It was great! I managed to get myself a few bargains. I picked up this slogan T-shirt from French Connection for £3 and a rust knit from New Look for £5 - so I was very happy with my finds.

I think it is important to remember that you don't always have to buy something new. Why not try buying second hand? App's like Depop, Mercari or even Ebay are all great for reselling and purchasing unwanted clothes.

Have you ever tried to do a shopping ban before? Is there any steps you might be taking to reduce the amount of clothes you buy? I would love to know your thoughts on the topic!

  2. I'm starting my month long shopping ban tomorrow - Nov. 1st! With the holidays coming up, I really want to save my money that I would be spending on clothes and be able to get nice gifts for people instead! I also went to 'Another Blogger Sale,' but I'm not sure if I saw you there! They definitely had some great deals, though, and it made it a great last shopping day!

Love these photos, by the way! I'm in love with this location!!
