Why It Is Ok To Lack Motivation In January

Oh January, what a glum month you are.

I think that January could be the worst month of the year. Nothing really happens. The weather is miserable. We are all sad that Christmas is over. We are lacking motivation, inspiration and just wishing that it was Spring already.

Is this how you are feeling?

Well I am here to tell you that you are not alone.

It can be slightly frustrating when you feel this way, especially when you see other's feeling quite the opposite. They seem to be 'bossing' life, feeling so positive and motivated and achieving all their new years resolutions, when you are quite possibly doing the opposite or maybe just delaying starting. I would love to have this positive outlook right now, but I don't and I just can't force it.

A lot of my glumness towards January may have started as I spent the first week or so of January ill with a cold, sore throat and horrendous cough. Being full of the cold knocked me out for over a week. I saw other bloggers who also had a cold, out shooting outfits and it made me feel guilty for not doing the same. I knew people still going to the gym even though they had a cold, but I just couldn't do it. Should I have just sucked it up and done the same? Sometimes though, you really just have to do you. Listen to your body. I needed to rest, recover and recuperate and shouldn't have felt guilty for doing this.

I have also not been using my phone as much this month, barely sharing on my blog and Instagram. This is mostly to do with the fact I had nothing to post, no new outfits to share and had taken barely any new photo's. I felt so uninspired, so decided it was best for me to take a backseat and chill out a bit. Again, doing what was right for me.

See, it is totally normal to lack motivation this month. Let's not drag ourselves down about it, because I am sure so many people are feeling the same and hey there are another 11 months of the year ahead to do everything you want to do. I am sure all of our motivation will come back in no time and we will be out of this January rut very soon.

I say in future, we all just take January off. Anyone else?

  1. I hate January! And the weather doesn't help! I can't do anything - write, post, shoot... But I love your jumper!

  3. I LOVE this post! You totally nailed how I'm feeling about January - it can be a competitive month at best but as I get older I'm less interested in that and more interested in doing whatever works for me! Thanks for reminding me :)
