What My Time Off Instagram Taught Me

When this blog post goes live, I won’t have posted a photo on Instagram for almost a month, which is a little crazy. I took some time off Instagram and you know what, it feels good. I even deleted the app from my phone for the past two weeks to truly have a break from Instagram. I honestly thought that I would find it difficult, but I really haven’t. I have kind of loved it. That is not to say that I don’t want to use Instagram ever again, but not missing the app proved that the time off was obviously much needed. I wanted to stay off it until I felt like I really wanted to use it again, until I was excited to have it back.

If any of you are thinking of taking a break from Instagram, whether you are a blogger or not, I highly recommend it! It is good for your mind, soul and reminds you to live your life in the moment and to stop scrolling mindlessly through the app at other people’s lifes. You would be lying if you said you never felt bad about yourself or jealous from seeing a photo of someone else on instagram, whether you have compared yourself to others appearance, their clothes or even their life. It isn’t healthy.

It can also feel hard to keep up sometimes, when other bloggers are able to post photo’s day in and day out, in different locations with new outfits and are therefore growing much quicker than you are. It can be slightly frustrating. But I have realised that I need to remember, that for some people Instagram and Blogging is their full time job. They have time to do it every day. But I work full time in a job that I love, that I am good at and that makes me happy. When my work is really busy and I am staying late, to be honest the last thing I want to do is think about what to post on Instagram, what to write a caption. I sometimes just don’t have the brainpower left over to do anything else except eat dinner and watch friends on the sofa. Anyone else?

My time off Instagram has made me realise that there is so much more to life. I have unfollowed a lot of accounts, and vouch to have a more positive attitude towards the app. I have always loved taking photo’s and creating my Instagram feed, no matter how small it may be and that is what I need to remember sometimes. To stop focusing on the likes, stop letting the numbers bother me and just have fun with the app. I want to follow positive people that inspire me or make me smile, post photos that I want to post, when I want to post them and I don’t want to feel pressured from it at all.

I am excited to finally download that Instragram app again and start posting some festive photos in the run up until Christmas!

I would love to know what your thoughts are on Instagram these days? Would you ever think about taking a break from it all?

Christmas Gifting With Boots

With only 1 month until Christmas, it is time to start thinking about finding and purchasing the perfect Christmas present's for your friends and family! Nobody wants to be leaving it to the last minute and finding the right present for someone can be difficult, so I am here to give you a little bit of gifting inspiration. I am so excited to be collaborating with Boots on this post as part of their 50 days of Christmas campaign to help you find the perfect Christmas gift for someone special. Boots have an amazing selection of Christmas gifts this year as usual and you can really find something on there for everyone.

A Gift For Your Best Friend

First up I have this incredible gift set of Yankee candles that I picked out for my best friend. Candles are always a good option right? Most girls love candle's and especially a festive themed one! She is really into homewear and has just recently moved into her first house with her boyfriend, so I thought it would be the perfect gift for her to add to her home and make it feel extra cosy. All the candles come in different sizes and there is such a lovely selection of different Christmassy scents included, which all smell amazing and I just know she will love them.

Shop Boots amazing selection of gifts for her.

A Gift For Your Mum

I think it is nice to get people presents that they wouldn't normally buy themselves. My mum tends to stick to using the same skincare brands she has for years, so I thought this Origins gift set was the best way for her to try some new products from a brand she might not have normally picked. This set is such good value for just £32, you get so many of their best selling products included. Origins are an amazing brand that I have loved and used for years, so I definitely think my mum will love it too!

How To Make A Rented Flat Feel Like Home

How To Make A Rented Flat Feel Like Home With Desenio - Lauren Rose Style Home Interior Post / London UK Blogger

So you are renting a flat but you still want to make it feel like yours, feel homey and cosy but you don't want to break the bank right? I honestly don't think you have to spend a lot of money to do this. I think it is all about accessorising your home, and making the most of what you have got. Adding simple touches like candles, photos, prints as well as adding some texture through cushions and throws really can transform any room. It is such a simple way to add your own style into a room and make it feel more like home. Plants and flowers are also a great inexpensive way to add some life and colour into your space and it makes such a difference.

I have lived in my flat since April and have slowly been working on adding my own touch to the place. However my spare room is somewhere that has taken more of a backseat and we have neglected. It was very empty and bare before but with the help of some amazing prints from Desenio, it is really starting to come together. I think adding prints to the walls really lifts the room and definitely adds some character. This room is where I get ready every morning and somewhere I want to be able to chill and work on my blog cosied up on the sofa and I think I will feel so much happier in the space now with the new additions to the room.

I am so happy to be collaborating with Desenio on this post as they are a brand that I actually love and somewhere I have bought some prints and frames from before. They have such an amazing selection and range of prints, in all different sizes - there really is something for everyone. They have recently released their 'London Studio' collection, which I was very excited about and just had to pick this pink door print. The prints are reasonable priced and what I love the most is that you can buy the frames that match at the same time. It makes the whole experience so easy. They also have a great choice of frame colours to choose from to suit your own décor.

I have the Breathe Print and The London Pink Door Print together above the sofa and the La Lune Moon Print pictured on the left.

If you are renting and you can't make holes in the wall like me, then you can get these adhesive mounts strips, which are amazing. They just easily peal off after and leave no marks behind on the wall.

I really think these prints have transformed my spare room and I am so happy with them! Let me know what you think?

As much as I love a good roll neck and cosy knit at this time of year, I also love wearing dresses. I am such a dress person, it really doesn't matter what season it is for me, they are just so easy to wear. This dress is the perfect autumnal dress. I am obsessed with the mix of colours, the unique print and the added lurex detail running through the stripes giving some fabric interest and making this dress a real statement piece. I have had so many compliments on it every time I have worn it!

It is such a versatile dress as it is perfect to wear day and night. I have been wearing it to work, as well as at the weekend and I will even be able to get a lot of wear out it around Christmas time. I have been wearing it with no tights at the moment, but when it starts to get colder I think this dress will also look great worn with a pair of tights.

Hope your all having a lovely weekend! Lauren Rose xx
